The lovely little town, nestling high up in the wooded mountains of Monchique, where baskets, chairs, and other wooden objects as well as hand knitted woolen sweaters are the tradition produce.

It's parish church has a typical Manueline doorway of knotted columns. The peaks of Picota and Fóia towering above, afford breathtaking panoramic views.

The especially neat and clean spa of Caldas de Monchique, whose waters were discovered by the Romans, lies 3 miles to the south. Taking the waters is good for the body and mind, if not the palette.
